Solana Networks Tapped to Support Shared Services Ongoing Data Centre Consolidation Efforts
Solana Networks, a leader in network discovery solutions, was awarded a contract in August 2020 to deliver a data centre discovery solution for Shared Services Canada (SSC), as part of a multi-phased strategy. The first phase required for the delivery of a proof-of-concept system to validate the approach and its suitability to address Canada’s data centre consolidation efforts.
Medium/large Enterprise networks and Government are increasingly consolidating their distributed data centres into a smaller number of modern data centres which are flexible and virtual. SSC for example has a mandate to consolidate hundreds of Federal data centres to a handful of modern data centres. Migration from old to new data centres is time consuming and costly due to the cumbersome and mostly manual approaches currently used. Solana successfully delivered its proof-of-concept solution in February 2021 and has been invited to bid on phase 2 which requires the delivery of a prototype.
The final POC integrates a Data Centre Discovery engine with Options Analysis to assist SSC IT analysts faced with decisions regarding different migration options. The POC includes a Collector and an Analyzer built on a peer-to-peer, easy-to-deploy and scalable architecture. The collector includes a powerful discovery engine which discovers information and attributes from different data centre devices. The Analyzer distills discovered information, analyzes the data and performs options analysis, providing recommendations for migration/consolidation. Data Centre discovery is carried out across multiple data centres and multiple VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks).
